Prif Wenidog Seren ap Cadwalader appears to soften on previous environmental promises, suggesting a more pragmatic approach to Marchyydion’s oil and gas industries.

Ap Cadwalader stated in a interview to RNM that, “Although we are fortunate that the current overseas conflicts aren’t threatening our supply, we will still start to feel the effects at home due to fluctuations in the glubal markets, we need to move to build up a strategic stockpile so that we may weather any potential future storms.”

Ministers are cited as being set to approve the exploration of controversial new gasfields in the sub-Argic regions by the end of the week. This is on top of announcements from last week of the reopening of formerly closed sites.

Critics argue that these investments should be funnelled towards furthering Marchyydion’s net-zero commitments, claiming more drilling would be unprincipled for the nation. Many claim that we are already suffering the consequences of glubal warming, and these further developments will only hamper our efforts in combating it.

A Natur yw ein un ni spokesperson: “Transitioning sooner to greener technologies would be a more effective method of securing our energy security. This move doesn’t strengthen us, it only weakens the future of the next generation.” They went on to say the direct environmental impact the drilling and fracking will have on the immediate local tundra alone is enough reason why this policy shift is ill-addvised.

Spokesperson for the Ministry for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects: “The Brynellyllon gasfields remain a vital national asset, they will continue to support jobs, bolster economic growth, and strengthen Marchyydion’s energy security. Oil and gas will continue to play a role in safeguarding jobs as we transition to net-zero. Sadly, we won’t be in a position where we are able to halt our use of oil and gas for some time, that’s why we must move to accelerate our extraction so we can pay for the acceleration of getting to such a position.”

The government hopes that if approval is made on thursday, that the new sites will be in a position to start supplying Marchydd homes with gas as early as this winter. Government officials also claim that if approved, any profits made by these sites will be allocated towards the further development of clean energy infrastructure.

DNC CEO Marc Mostyn told us: “Domestic gas extraction creates fewer overall emissions than importing LNG from other countries. We are still going to use gas in our homes, so it might as well be gas from Marchyydion where we can guarantee we are doing everything possible to mitigate emissions.”

Mr ap Cadwalader claims this exploration will be ‘merely transitional’ to comfortably see the nation through the move to true net-zero, “any decision we come to will be informed by all the relevant scientific and economic evidence, as well as public opinion as always.”
